An Exhibition of Ancient Mesopotamian Art

The standing male deity is perhaps the Babylonian god of heaven, Anu. He wears a a long flounced skirt and four-horned crown, the mark of an important divinity. His long braided beard and two hanging hair curls are augmented by large earrings. The god holds two weapons across his chest. This creme colored terracotta relief plaque was made in a mold. An identical plaque probably from the same mold is now in the British Museum.
